2021 In Color

Colorful highlights from 2021.

The early winter months brought winter nostalgia, god rays and frozen moments in front of the lens.

Then came some rather dramatic weather in the summer months, still in Denmark.

Two consecutive trips to Greece. First to the old friend Crete and then for the first time to the wonderful island of Corfu.

Samaria Gorge is a tough descent, at least for me; but I’ll probably forget how much by the next time I’m there. I did not capture quite that many photographs on this trip. It wasn’t quite the right time of year. However this image really reminds me of how it is to be in the Samaria Gorge.

Down almost at sea level this this image was taken right before sunrise. The building is the church of St. George. Looks rather olympian.

Back in Denmark there was foggy weather, producing the right kind of atmosphere for morning light to show off some really pretty light hitting majestic naked trees.

I met these beautiful naked trees in foggy weather. They are normally pretty but amazing in fog.

The local King Christian X bridge is one I have visited many times over the years. This time I revisited it in foggy weather with a composition I did several years ago for the first time.

An impressive cloud cover moved over the city and using a 14mm wide angle lens I captured this image which reminds me of a phoenix.

Visiting the greek island of Corfu for the first time was also a photographic highlight of the year. Corfu has a lot to offer but this 1-hour impressive front had the perfect timing.

The first experience of Spring-like weather in 2019 combined with a long walk along forest and fjord surroundings.

I quite enjoy both the monochrome and color version of this scene, although the black and white version takes on a more clear graphical expression.

2019 - Year In Review

In terms of new experiences, 2019 came with two visits to Greece. This year I am not making a poster but simply a collection of some preferred images of 2019.

Råbjerg Mile

Råbjerg Mile — this is the second time I’ve visited the closest thing to a desert in Denmark.

Råbjerg Mile Sunset
May 2019

Råbjerg Mile is a pearl of nature. It can exhibit very different characteristics under different weather conditions, as expected, of course. But since it has both hills and valleys, it takes on a desert-like nature, unlike, Rømø, which a very flat.

The most challenging aspect to photographing Råbjerg Mile is more or less finding the right time with a pristine scene without thousands of footprints and dousins of tourists (Danish or foreign).

Here are a few more images, taken in winter time.

Had I the heaven’s embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light;
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Local Architecture

A new hotel is opening tomorrow (May 6th) in my home town, Sønderborg - it is called Alsik. I went down to find the most interesting framing of this towering building.

At the same time there was a glorious sunset, hitting the other side of the building. Although the colors looked glorious there was another building close by that was better from that angle, the House of Knowledge (or Videnshuset, as it is called in Danish).

Some of the best light I’ve seen this building bathed in. There is still some construction going on in the area, at the time of writing, but all in all, in the right light, it is quite pretty.

2018 - Year In Review

I have collected a few of my favourite images made in the course of 2018.

2018 Year In Review Poster (black edition).

2018 was a year of travel. This year I travelled to Malta (Medina, Valetta), Spain (Barcelona), Hungary (Budapest), Denmark (Copenhagen), Greece (Rethimo) and Croatia (Split). Many images are still from at home in Denmark, there are quite a few travel landscape and architectural images represented in the poster.

Impressions of Crete (September 2018)

On a recent trip to the greek island of Crete I had the chance to encounter some dramatic fall weather in the coastal town of Rethimno.

Below are some of the images I made. The images are part of a series I call “Impressions of Crete”.

The first image shows of the dramatic fall sky in Rethimno. I find it has a kind of dystopian atmosphere.

In the next image, it appears that Zeus is active in the background to this aptly named hotel.

Impressions of Copenhagen (September 2018)

On a recent short trip to Copenhagen I was able to frame up some beautiful architecture.

Below are some of the images I made. The images are part of a series I call “Impressions of Copenhagen”.

The first image is from Industriens Hus (roughly “House of Industry”). A quite remarkable glass-facade house that has neon lights that animate during the dark hours.

Apex II

The next two images are from the Blue Planet planetarium in Copenhagen. It is quite a beautiful exterior facade which in a way is more interesting, architecturally speaking, than the interior design and architecture. When framed without other elements and people, it has a surreal aesthetic.

Impressions of Barcelona (August 2018)

On a recent trip to Barcelona, I used the chance to frame up some architecture.

Below are some of the images I was able to make. The images are part of a series I call “Impressions of Barcelona”.

The first image presents a humble scene but it is perhaps my favourite. A plant stretches out as if to seek out light.

The Barcelona Cathedral is a beautiful architectural pearl in the intriguing Gothic quarter.

Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia I
Impressions of Barcelona

This pyramidal structure is a wireframe-like sculpture from the Barcelona airport outside park area, which resides inside the airport compound. I kind the Barcelona airport overwhelming and beautiful to behold from the inside (and probably the outsides as well). It has been hard for me to frame up due to its overwhelming proportions though.

I am not quite sure what this venue is called. I happend upon it by chance. It does have a very beautiful interior design and is definitely worth revisiting. There are many interesting angles and frames inside.

Impressions of Barcelona

The below structure is a bank. It looked to be like a bridge across the sky. I find the clouds, glass and metal surface very appealing and abstract.

Aluminium Sheets
Impressions of Barcelona

Inside the Barcelona Gothic quarter hides numerous atmospheric corners. Boutiques, cafés, restaurants and shops. As if a transforming maze, the places appear and disappear behind sheet metal facades, depending on day and hour of day. This particular clothing store oozed of atmosphere and had to be imaged in color.

Impressions of Budapest (April 2018)

During the easter of 2018, I went on a trip to Budapest. The first time there. The city has some fascinating architecture that is definitely worth revisiting.

Below are some of the images I was able to make. The images are part of a series I call “Impressions of Budapest”.

Impressions of Split (March 2018)

On a trip to Split in Croatia, I had a chance to encounter some of the beauty of the city and the region surrounding the city. The city itself is a UNESCO protected site.

The city itself is a wonder to behold. One understands why the location scout for Game of Thrones picked this city, along other places in Croatia.

The highlight of the trip was the Krka National Park though. It is truly marvelous and I am sure I will be revisiting it.

Architectural Cosmos

A couple of days ago I went on a small walk to see my new appartment. Whilst walking back with a friend I discovered beautiful reflections at the local university complex, which has wooden planks outside, right next to the sea. I only had my mobile phone on me and took several pictures.

I have titled the images according to the associations I get when I look at them together. ("Nebula" was taken elsewhere and on a earlier day).

In search of texture

These photographs were made on a day trip to the city Svendborg with 60 fellow photographers. Too many for my taste but it was a fun day.

On this trip I photographed some architecture but had quite a few photographs texture in the end. In particular of a colorful fishing boat.

Harsh Texture

The next perspective shows the lines and curves of the boat.

The last image of the boat shows the chain for the anchor.

The next photograph shows the rustic chains that were laying at the dock.

The final photograph is of two boats juxtaposed.
